Valixira are a species of mammalian/reptile-like intelligent creatures, hailing from a planet that they refer to as Ira. The Valixira are omnivorous, with some subspecies veering closer towards being carnivorous. They are for the most part nocturnal to crepuscular, as their planet has much longer night hours than daylight. It is widely accepted that the Valixira are not of the world that they live on, and are believed to have long ago hatched from meteors landing on the young planet. Because of this, they have a fascination with the stars, and much of their society revolves around their connection with the stars and night sky.

There are several common subspecies, and while there are certain areas where a mix of Valixira live in harmony, the subspecies tend to stay within familiar clans. Each subspecies is named for the star in their sky that they are believed to have originated, and each star-clan has a signature gemstone/mineral and plant that is symbolic to them.

Valixira are quite varied, but aside from one subspecies, are on average the size of a large horse.

They have six legs; four fore-limbs and two rear-legs. Their limbs are quite thin and delicate; they are mostly used for dexterity rather than for athletic activities.  Each limb has 4 digits, with the front four limbs having the most dexterous digits. Their limbs have no fur, rather being scaled, however some subspecies have variations on this. They generally have very powerful tails however, that are useful for both climbing and for balance. They have large wings, and flight is the preferred method of locomotion for Valixira.

Tails tend to be furless and scaled, however the furred area can depend on the individual. Certain subspecies can have very short tails, but a complete lack of tail is very unusual. Tails are spurred. and the number of spurs vary. These may be removed in a fight, or by will of the individual, but they do grow back over time.

Valixira have a maximum of two horns. Their horns grow for much of their life, and if broken, can very slowly grow back if allowed. Some  individuals have horns with one-two prongs, however their horns never grow to resemble antlers. A Valixira’s horns is its secondary defense against attack, following after it’s tail.

As a general trait, all Valixira have four eyes. Three eyes are extremely rare, and is a mutation that also results in mild-powerful psychic abilities. In extreme cases, Valixira that have lost an eye in battle, or have had one damaged by disease can very rarely acquire some psychic ability, but it is never nearly as powerful as the individuals born with the mutation. Those born with three eyes aren’t outcasts, but generally do not stay with a clan, as they tend to have little control over their abilities once they reach adulthood.

Erana

    •    Plant: Lemon Verbena // Gemstone: Alexandrite
    •    Slighter build, average height. Patterning on fur of back and hind legs common.
    •    The Lonis clan/subspecies tend to be of slighter build than the other subspecies, and out of all the subspecies, they have the most crepuscular behaviour. The Lonis clan values appearance, and enjoy making and wearing accessories. Members of the Lonis subspecies are also the most open to living with other subspecies, enjoying travel and adventure away from home, and it is encouraged within their communities as a vital learning experience.

Ather

    •    Plant: Juniper // Gemstone: Sapphire
    •    Smallest Valixira, have thick fur, mostly in pale or earthy tones. Short tails that are almost always completely covered in fur.
    •    The Ather clan/subspecies are much smaller than the others, and tend to live in colder climates. Their fur is much thicker, and their tails are shorter. Their feet are very owl-like, with fur extending down to their talons. This subspecies does not willingly interact with other subspecies often, but they are known to be very secretive and easily startled. They are fully nocturnal, and are mostly arboreal within their home areas, preferring to live in and around the massive trees in their territories.

Rildarech

    •    Plant: Thistle // Gemstone: Beryl
    •    Tallest Valixira, longest necks with lightest fur. Colours tend to be bright, with patterns not uncommon.
    •    The Rildarech clan/subspecies live in warmer regions, especially tropics, but also can be found in drier climates. They are a very proud subspecies, with colourful fur and crests. Out of all of the common Valixira, they enjoy spending time in the water most of all, and a large part of their diet includes fish and other sea life. The Rildarech subspecies are peaceful despite their prideful nature and generally get on well with other clans. This subspecies are most likely to spend time active during daylight.

Murisard

    •    Plant: Anise // Gemstone: Smoky Quartz
    •    Short and muscular, fluffier/thicker mane, shorter tail.
    •    Murisard are a mountainous subspecies, preferring to live on cliffsides and in caves. They are fully nocturnal, and have poor eyesight in daylight. The Murisard subspecies are the most aggressive, preferring to take action as opposed talking out conflicts. They prefer using their wings to assist with jumping, rather than using them for full-flight, and their limbs are powerful enough that wing damage/loss doesn’t debilitate them too severely. They are omnivorous but have a preference towards eating meat.
